What are the limited traffic areas reserved for bus
The public administrations of cities with large tourist numbers have been using a system to limit the access of tour buses for several years.
In most cases tour buses that want access to these cities must display a special badge which can be acquired at special kiosks or on the INTERNET.
Every city applies different charging systems based on the level of pollution and/or the type of service that the bus is carrying out (transfer, visiting, school service, special occasion etc.). Prices range from a few dozen to several hundred euros.
It is therefore best to inquire before making your journey. The major cities with limited traffic systems for buses are: Rome - Florence - Venice - Verona - Bologna - Pisa - Lucca - Siena - San Gimignano. All offer further information on the INTERNET.
The limited-traffic zones for tour buses concern vehicles with spaces for 10 or more passengers. Other vehicles (cars and people carriers) hired with driver, are generally exempt from limitations and can pass through the common limited-traffic zones and many pedestrian areas.
